The headroom is not in question. Now it appears a 30 slide in or drop in is 31 1 2 and requires a 30 opening. The attic in question is smaller that that size. 2 the attic access opening may have been removed during a remodeling.

And this is the wierd part of it. When the access is located in a ceiling minimum unobstructed headroom in the attic space shall be 30 inches. I have looked at ge westinghouse whirlpool frigidaire kenmore etc.

The minimum area for an access is 22x30. The opening needs to be large enough to remove the unit. The vertical height shall be measured from the top of the ceiling framing members to the underside of the roof framing members. The rough framed opening shall not be less than 22 inches by 30 inches 559 mm by 762 mm and shall be located in a hallway or other readily accessible location.

One purchase a 27 range and add filler on each side. Every 30 drop in slide in range requires a 30 opening and are 31 5 overall.
